Shows On APAC Old & New That You Can Watch With Video On Demand
For the last couple of weeks I’ve been talking about making your own content to show on APAC Comcast channel 9, and on our video on-demand player. We have received a few videos and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. This week I want to focus on some of the shows that have been sent into us and assembled together by the APAC staff.
Below are playlists and video links to the videos you helped bring to the television screen. We have our resident story teller Strega Mama, the video greeting from the ASRSD, and our newest shows Bangarang Yoga & Recipe Renegade.
One video I would like to highlight is the March 4th Nashoba Valley Chamber's Breakfast with the Boss filmed and edited by APAC’s Barry Schwarzel. Barry does a great job for us, he filmed and assembled this wonderful video on "the opioid crisis in our community". When it comes to being a producer and videographer, Barry is exceptional. You can find all of Barry's shows on both the channel and Video On-Demand player.
Another APAC employee I’d like to shine the light on is APAC Public Access Manager, Chris Maloney. It is Chris who works with the residents of Ayer on their prospective projects, and helps to create shows like “Strega Mama” and “Scout Finds Out."
Please enjoy all these new programs, and if you want to film a show please reach out to us at [email protected].

The Greeting Heard All Around The District
April 10th, 2020:
If you were on social media on Thursday, you may have seen a video greeting from the teachers of ASRSD. How this video came together was when APAC approached school superintendent Mary Malone the other week about compiling a video greeting for the Pre-K through grade 12 students. The messages could be anywhere from 5 seconds to 30 seconds long, and was meant to let the students know that their teachers were proud of them.
All the teachers filmed each segment on their phones, and emailed them to me at [email protected]. Then those videos were edited together with music, and ended up being about 22 minute long. The response to the video was overwhelmingly positive. Working with all the teachers and seeing the videos you all filmed was an incredibly rewarding experience.
The reason for the video was because we understand how difficult this time of quarantine has been for everyone, especially the students. We just wanted to do something nice for the town, and put some positivity back into the world. Nothing says we're thinking of you, you're doing great, and be safe like a video.
If you have not seen the video you can watch it by clicking the image below. If you have seen the video, and didn’t see your teacher don’t worry we’re going to compile another video with more teachers in a few weeks. These videos are here to bring us together as a community. We hope you enjoyed this video and all the other content that’s available on the APAC video player.

Public Domain Throwback Movies and Television Shows:
April 3rd, 2020
This week I want to talk about classic television and film. I’m not sure you are aware of this, but APAC shows films and television shows from the 30s,40s, and 50s that are in the public domain. I know that sounds cringeworthy. It may seem as if there is nothing good within this category, but I promise you that is not true. We show shorts from the three stooges, Popeye, and full episodes of one step beyond. As for films we have classics like the original “A Star Is Born,” “His Girl Friday,” and “My Man Godfrey” all airing along with Shirley Temple’s “A Little Princess.” You can watch those films throughout the week on APAC Comcast channel 9 or stream the channel with the schedule right here to see when it is playing.
Every Saturday morning from 9AM until 11:30AM we show classic Saturday morning cartoons that are in the public domain. Introduce your children to old fashion hand drawn animation and a few characters you grew up with like Casper, Woody Woodpecker, and Little Lulu.
We also want to give you that old Sci-Fi Drive-In movie feeling as well. If you tune in every Saturday Night we have the APAC Creature Feature starring classic horror & sci-fi icons like Bella Lugosi, Vincent Price, and Basil Rathebone as Sherlock Holmes. Tune into Channel 9 from 6:30PM until midnight for some classic B movies of the 1950s!
We have plenty of great regular programming that I’ll be talking about next week. If you’re stuck inside why not relive some of those great films from yesteryear. We hope you tune in and enjoy the great programming we have to offer you.

Being An APAC Member From The Comfort of Your Own Home
Last week, I discussed filming videos for APAC from the comfort of your home during this time of social distancing. But what does that entail? Well, it means filming your own 2-8 minute videos that we can air on Channels 8,9, and 99. It sounds difficult but it's quite simple now that everyone has a camera in their cell phones. What we're looking for is anything you find of interest. If you have a hobby or a passion, then why not film it? The greatest gift we have in this day and age is knowledge, and sharing what motivates you or what brings you happiness is important. If you're an artist, why not have a family member film you painting or teaching the audience how to make a work of art. If you're a chef, then we would love to see what you can bake up.
Your video can be anything you want. As long as it is television appropriate, we will air it. Make sure there is no explicit content i.e. no language, no violence, no hate speech, or anything of a graphic matter. Stick to a G or PG rating. Other than that, the sky's the limit for what you can do. Once you film a video on your phone then email it to [email protected] and we will edit all your videos together into a community based show. That’s right we will edit it together for you with a title and graphics. Once the video is finished we will send it out on our channels, social media, and right here on the website.
The only other thing you need to do is follow the filming instructions using the two step photo guidelines up above. Make sure the phone is horizontal and NOT vertical, it is easier for us to edit a horizontal video because you can capture more in the video screen. If you film using the vertical method, we'll have to shrink down the video and add a background, try your best to film the video horizontal.
Whatever you film we want to see it. So please film as many short videos or films as you want and send them to us. We want to help showcase your creativity whatever that maybe. So please stay safe, make a video at home, and let us at APAC be here for you to share your work.

Website Changes, CDC Guidelines, and Ways To Keep Busy These Next Few Weeks
March 20th, 2020
Website Changes:
If you haven’t noticed, the APAC website has gone through a bit of a change this week. This was done to make it more user friendly and easier to navigate. The new website also has a new URL. Instead of typing in the old handle ayerpac.org, just type in ayerpublicaccess.org, and once in you’ll notice a welcome message, and a dashboard pointing you to different pages on the site.
Scrolling down on the home page will lead you to the livestreams of APAC’s three channels, Public, Education, and Government. The live stream is exactly what you would see on Comcast Channels 8, 9, and 99. We also added direct links to our Video On-Demand player and classic archived videos that are located on our Vimeo Channel.
In the past to submit a bulletin to the APAC bulletin board you had to go to the shows page and scroll down. We've moved that to section to our contacts section under ABOUT. As you can see from the images below. We hope this will help in the future when you need to contact us or post an item on the channel.
The final addition to the website is this weekly blog from Me, Scott Kurland, APAC Executive Director. This blog will come out on Fridays and let you know what is going on around town, will provide help on filming videos, or what events APAC has going on for you. We hope that these changes will make it easier for you to get your Ayer based content.
CDC Guidelines For Health and Safety:
All of us at APAC know that right now is a stressful time, and there are many questions about health & safety. The CDC and State of Massachusetts has set out a few guidelines and information that will help you get through these next few weeks. Here are direct links to the Mass Gov & CDC websites plus some added details below.:
Guidelines From the State:
https://www.mass.gov/info-details/covid-19-guidance-and-directives
Guidelines From the CDC:
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prepare/prevention.html
Hand Washing Tips & Tricks:
The CDC recommends washing your hands with antibacterial soap for twenty seconds. The norm for counting twenty seconds in your head is singing “Happy Birthday” twice, but here’s a list of songs that you can sing the choruses to that will make hand washing fun. In case you forgot the lyrics we've added them below.:
“Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac:
“Well, I've been 'fraid of changin’. 'Cause I've built my life around you. But time makes you bolder. Even children get older And I'm gettin' older, too.”
“Oops I Did It Again” By Britney Spears:
“Oops, I did it again. I played with your heart, got lost in the game. Oh baby, baby. Oops, you think I'm in love. That I'm sent from above. I'm not that innocent.”
“Call Me Maybe” By Carly Rae Jepsen:
“Hey, I just met you and this is crazy. But here's my number, so call me maybe. It's hard to look right at you baby. But here's my number, so call me maybe. Hey I just met you and this is crazy. But here's my number, so call me maybe. And all the other boys try to chase me. But here's my number, so call me maybe.”
“Take On Me” By Ah-Ha
“Take On Me (Take On Me), Take Me On (Take On Me), I’ll Be Gone, In A Day or Two!” (You can go as loud & high pitched as you want, just be mindful of the others in your home.)
Jolene By Dolly Parton
“Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene / I’m begging of you please don’t take my man / Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene / Please don’t take him just because you can”
Africa By Toto
“It’s gonna take a lot to drag me away from you / There’s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do / I bless the rains down in Africa / Gonna take some time to do the things we never had”
Other Songs You Can Sing The Choruses To:
Truth Hurts By Lizzo
Karma Chameleon by The Culture Club
Stayin’ Alive By The Bee Gees
Party In The USA By Miley Cyrus
Keeping Busy With APAC:
APAC offers a variety of shows and programs you can either watch on our Public, Education, and Government Livestreams or Video On-Demand player. But you can make your own videos of arts, crafts, cooking, or whatever hobbies interests you. We want you to film videos for us using your cell phone and email them to me, Scott Kurland at [email protected].
All videos will be viewed, edited, and compiled into a show featuring your everyday activities and crafts. Make sure they’re television appropriate. No language, violence, hate speech or anything that would not be air-able on television, think G or PG like a Disney or Pixar movie.
How To Use Your Phone Correctly:
Look at the diagram below on proper recording techniques. Your phone should be faced horizontal like you’re taking a photo of a landscape, not vertical.

Please enjoy the new ayerpublicaccess.org, stay safe, and we hope you submit your videos. Keep watching the station for new programs and government meetings.
